Whistle While You Work

* "When a dog runs at you, whistle for him."
-- Henry David Thoreau

I was struck by this quote because it is exactly how we are taught to train our dogs. When the dog offers a behavior - for example, sit - we click and treat. Soon the dog begins offering the behavior consistently and then we add the vocal cue.

Who knew old Henry David was at the forefront of clicker training?
