2008 Beijing Summer Olympics - Heat 1

Sorry, folks. I was hoping to let you know how my nephew Matt and his rowing buddies did this morning in the 1rst Heat of the 2008 Beijing Olympics Men's Eight. The alarm was set for 4:15 AM. I stepped on Belle as I struggled to find my way out of bed. Belle didn't even move. The computer booted up, the website opened, and then, aargh - a rain delay - but only for the 8's. All the other scheduled rowing races had completed their heats.

Here's NBC videos of Matt - after winning the US Trials in the Men's Pair and guaranteeing him a spot on the 2008 team - and a video of the 2004 defending Olympic champions. Go, USA - Go, Matt!

And finally, here's an NBC link that describes the various boats and races in Olympic competition:

Note: Microsoft Silverlight required to view videos. It's a free download, follow the prompts for downloading and then close and reopen Internet Explorer. Oh, and almost two hours after stepping on her, Belle is still curled in circle puppy - sound asleep.

I've been watching the links and seeing the videos from NBC and it's very exciting. I guess the finals are on the 16th very, very early in the morning. I WILL set my alarm and hope for the best. I'm hoping NBC can break away from Michael Phelps for just a moment to cover this event! Just to keep up with the dog theme, my puppies will be watching too. They think 4am is a great time to be up!
